OP-Zuid project started 26 June 2024
The project aims to develop a well-functioning detection and warning system for indoor farms, which will be tested and validated under operational conditions for three reference crops. The expected result includes not only an operational system, but also a detailed business case for market introduction. Upon achieving the set goals and results, the system can be quickly scaled up to other crops in indoor farms, increasing the financial potential and having a significant impact on the food transition. The project contributes to better management of cultivation risks in indoor farms, allowing indoor farming to become a fully-fledged and sustainable cultivation method.
This groundbreaking project arises from the collaboration between two SME companies from Zeeland and North Brabant, who have combined their expertise in sensor technology. Indoor farmer Seven Steps To Heaven (SSTH) from Eindhoven, North Brabant collaborates with Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) from Sint Annaland, Zeeland, an expert in high-tech gas sensor technology in the AgriFood sector.
The development of the detection and warning system is partly made possible by the award of an OPZuid ERDF 2021-2027 subsidy. This project has therefore been co-financed by the European Union and the Province of Zeeland.
