Ambient air ammonia monitoring 31 August 2019
In addition to the already existing MACView NH3 Analyzer for stables, EMS has also developed a low cost variant with which ultra low concentrations can be measured, which finds its application for ambient air monitoring of ammonia in the outside air. The measurement range of this ammonia analyzer is 0 - 2.5 ppm, which corresponds to 0 - 2500 ppb (part per billion). Small amounts of ammonia are found in ambient outside air. Accurately measuring ammonia in the outside air was previously only possible for laboratories with advanced and expensive measuring equipment for example, RIVM measuring stations that continuously monitor ammonia at a number of locations in the Netherlands. In tests with the system, clear relationships can be observed. If in outside air an odor of manure is observed in the open air, it is noticed that the ammonia concentration is rising. The resolution of the measuring system is 1 ppb, with which the smallest changes of ammonia in the outside air can easily be observed. Interesting applications are to observe background emissions arround stables, since odor is the parameter with nuisance, but there must always be an ammonia component in it. The analyzer measures near-time and forwards data directly to the internet. All data is immediately available on a website. For more information consult EMS.
