This project will develop an innovative detection and warning system for stress in crops grown in indoor farms. This data-driven solution will make cultivation risks significantly more manageable in indoor farms. The conditioned and closed cultivation conditions offer a unique opportunity to apply this system on a practical scale, which increases its importance as a modern 'canary in the coal mine'.

Quality loss … a perishable supply chain challenge Lots of fruits and vegetables are being produced in Africa for European consumption and transported to the Netherlands by road, rail (Coolrail) or by sea via Port of Rotterdam. Product loss during transport, warehousing and distribution is about 14%. Transport losses represent almost 4%. Apart from using temperature-controlled transport with fixed settings, there is no monitoring of the quality loss during transport.

Great loss of value occurs as a result of poor control of the conditions during transport of fresh products. In fruit transport alone, it is about 5-8%. Under the leadership of TNO and Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, a consortium of parties will investigate what the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in fresh logistics can mean in the solution of this waste.

The dosing of CO2 in the greenhouse has been established for years in vegetable growing under glass. This carbon source is a crucial key element for smooth photosynthesis and thus the build-up of biomass. The CO2 that is dosed in the greenhouses mainly comes from flue gases from a boiler or CHP. Practical experiences, however, teach that the quality of these flue gases is often insufficient.

EMS Participates: Limburg and Vlaanderen strengthen innovative power in greenhouse horticulture

Twelve Limburg and Flemish companies and knowledge centers are joining forces to further strengthen greenhouse horticulture. It concerns innovations around energy consumption, less CO2 emissions and efficient use of resources. The consortium has received a European subsidy for this and has received intensive support from the Province of Limburg and the Province of Antwerp. The project runs from June 2018 to mid-2021.

Saving Energy and extra safety for the CPR15.2 guideline by using the MACView® gas measurement system

The CPR15.2 guideline (Committee Prevention of disasters) is a Dutch guideline that says, in (heated) warehouses for chemical storing an air refreshment factor of 5 is needed. These refreshment factor keeps the concentration of gasses low and prevents arising of vapours.
